DietsInReview.com posted a list of popular summer activities, and how many calories they burn. Here are the top four.

* Water Skiing. In 30 minutes, a 150-pound person burns around 200 calories. And it works your upper and lower body.

* Swimming. Depending on your body weight, just swimming around casually burns between 250 and 400 calories an hour. And if you swim laps, you can burn a lot more.

* Hiking. If you're 150 pounds, you'll burn about 400 calories on a one-hour hike, depending on how steep it is. If you weigh MORE than that, obviously you'll burn more calories, because each step requires more energy.

* Playing Nine Holes of Golf. If you walk AND carry your clubs, you'll burn around 700 calories, or 1,400 if you do 18 holes.

"There are no words to match this moment."

So began the final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. After 25 years and 4,561 episodes, Winfrey bid farewell to her daytime talk show this afternoon. While there may not have been words to "match this moment," the hour was filled with other words: funny ones, sad ones, inspiring ones, and poignant ones.

"It is no coincidence that I always wanted to be a teacher. I ended up with the greatest classroom in the world. And this, my friends, will be our last class for this stage," she said. How was the class? Here's a recap, in quotes:

The Funny:

Winfrey recalled her first job on AM Chicago with no publicist and no stylist. All she had was "just a Jheri curl and a bad fur coat" and "earrings the size of napkins."

Talking about her childhood, Winfrey detailed her birth. Her parents were under the tree in Mississippi, she said, "and voila! Out pops me!"

"Don't wait for someone else to complete you. 'Jerry Maguire' was just a movie."

While celebrating with her audience as the credits rolled, Winfrey got extra excited when she saw one of her favorite people: Her dog. ""Sadie, we did it! We did it Sadie, we did it!"

The Wacky:

"Live from the heart of yourself"

"Your life is speaking to you. What does it say?"

"Nobody but you is responsible for your life. You are responsible for your life. What is your life? What is all life? What is every flower, every rock, every tree? Energy. Everyone has a platform, Winfrey said. "Mine is a stage in a studio. Yours is wherever you are, with your own reach."

"I've talked to nearly 30,000 people on this show, and all 30,000 had one thing in common -- they all wanted validation. ... They want to know, do you hear me? Do you see me? Does what I say mean anything to you?"

"This is what I was called to do...Everybody has a calling, and your real job in life is to find it."

Talking about how she got to where she is, Winfrey credited God. Which God? "I'm talking about the same one you're talking about. The Alpha and Omega. The Omniscience, the Omnipresent, the Ultimate Consciousness, the Source, the Force, the All of Everything There Is, the one and only G-O-D."

"You also have to know what sparks the light in you so that you in your own way can illuminate the world. You have the power to change somebody's life."

The Ugly Cry:

It's a fair bet that a large majority of viewers tuned in to the Oprah finale to cry. Not just cry, sob. Two segments of the show were especially emotional. Here are the monologues, with a few cuts.

Recalling how far she's come:

"But I'm truly amazed that I, who started out in rural Mississippi in 1954, when the vision for a black girl was limited to being either a maid or a teacher in a segregated school, could end up here. It is no coincidence that a lonely little girl [and here Oprah tears up] who felt not a lot of love, even though my parents and grandparents did the best they could -- it is no coincidence that I grew up to feel genuine kindness, affection, validation and trust from millions of you all over the world. From you whose names I will never know, I learned what love is. You and this show have been the great love of my life."

Signing off:

"Well, I say, all sweet, no bitter. And here's why. Many of us have been together for 25 years. We have hooted and hollered together, had our a-ha moments, we ugly-cried together and we did our gratitude journals. So I thank you all for your support and your trust in me. I thank you for sharing this yellow brick road of blessings. ...I thank you for being as much of a sweet inspiration for me as I've tried to be for you. I won't say goodbye. If you had a long weekend and you're a little drowsier than usual this morning, here are five quick ways to trick your body into waking up.

* Get a Few Minutes of Sunlight. Even if your office has a big window, it's better to get direct sunlight. So step outside for a few minutes. The fresh air helps too.

* Add Less Cream and Sugar to Your Coffee. It's not just the caffeine that wakes you up. It's also the bitterness. But a lot of people use so much cream and sugar it doesn't taste bitter at all.

* Pull Your Hair. If you tug on your hair gently, it gets blood flowing to your head and wakes you up. It might not work as well as a cup of coffee, but it'll help.

* Stretch Your Back, Neck and Legs. Don't do it in your chair. Stand up and stretch like you're about to go running. The point is to stretch really well so blood starts flowing through your entire body.

* Flip Your Head Upside-Down. While you're stretching, touch your toes and let your head hang in front of you. The massive rush of blood to your head can make you feel more alert. Just don't stand up too fast or it'll make you dizzy.

In celebration of the End of Days, the folks at MOVIEFONE compiled the five best apocalyptic scenarios they could think of ~~while waiting in line to buy canned goods and bottled water~~. In the movies, things always go down in a fiery jumble of aliens, zombies, nuclear havoc or assault by asteroid, but don't fret, fair Moviefone readers. Space invaders aren't coming this Saturday, the Big Man Upstairs is -- and he knows how to turn water into wine.

Even though this should be self-explanatory, be warned, some violent and disturbing content follows.

Nuclear War:

Bombs go off in movies all the time, but a fictional nuclear tragedy has never felt more real than it did in James Cameron's 1991 smash 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day.' Rather than focus on the demolition of buildings, Cameron opted to show the explosion from Sarah Conner's (Linda Hamilton) point of view. And what she watching when the bomb went off? A playground full of children, of course.

Attack by Aliens:

Steven Spielberg has a complex relationship with aliens. Sometimes they are lovable and nice and remind everyone what it means to be a family ('E.T.'), and sometimes they are pretty awful. The aliens in the 2005 remake of 'War of the Worlds' fall squarely in the latter category. They're here to take over, and they brought massive tripods equipped with lasers that reduce us mortals to dust. Watch your back!

The Weather Turns On Us:

Remember when 'The Day After Tomorrow' came out and there were all those TV specials asking how realistic the story was? Do you remember the answer? It was "Well, it probably wouldn't be that fast, but yeah, it could kinda happen." Climate change has made the possibility of mega-storms a scary-real prospect, and director Roland Emmerich, no stranger to world destruction after 'Independence Day,' gave us a peek at what it could look like with 'Tomorrow.' As usual in films like this, things do not turn out well for New York City.

Asteroids/Comets:

Though our friends who are predicting this weekend's apocalypse might try and tell you that Satan created fossils to fool you, most scientists agree that a major impact by an asteroid killed the dinosaurs. A big one smashed into Earth (some say in the Gulf of Mexico near the Yucatan Peninsula), sent a bunch of debris into the atmosphere, blocking out the sun and killing most of the plant life that sustained the food chain. Dino and his friends were kaput. So, it's only natural that the asteroid-meets-Earth scenario is a favorite way to scare audiences. In 30 short seconds, Paris bid adieu to the face of the planet when a big guy slammed into the city's center in 1998's 'Armageddon.' We're not sure what Jesus has planned for Saturday, but consider our telescopes pointed skyward.

TALK ABOUT MOUTHWATERING and BINGE WORTHY!

Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes 24 gigantic cookies
Prep: 25 minutes
Cook: 13 minutes

Ingredients
• 1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
• 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
• 3 1/2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
• 1 package Double Stuff Oreo cookies

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together with a mixer until well combined. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

In medium bowl mix the flour, salt, and baking soda. Slowly add to wet ingredients along with chocolate chips until just combined.

With a cookie scoop, form balls with the dough.

Place one ball on top of an Oreo cookie, and another ball on the bottom. Seal edges together by pressing and cupping in hand until Oreo cookie is fully enclosed with dough.

Place onto parchment or silpat lined baking sheets and bake cookies for approximately 13 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to cooling rack.

Military Spouse Day has been observed since May 23, 1984, when a proclamation by President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members.

The US Secretary of Defense standardized the date by declaring the Friday preceding Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Day.

The Military Spouse

When the good Lord was creating military spouses, He was into His sixth day of overtime.

An Angel appeared and said, "You're having a lot of trouble on this one. What's wrong with the standard model?"

The Lord replied, "Have you ever seen the regulations? It has to be completely independent, must be sponsored to get on base, have the qualities of both mother and father during deployments; Be a perfect hostess to four or 40, handle emergencies without military orders, cope with the flu and move around the world, have a kiss that cures anything from a child's torn valentine to a soldier's weary day, have the patience of a saint when waiting for the unit to return stateside, and have six pairs of soft hands."

The Angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pair of hands? No way!"

And the Lord answered, "Don't worry. We'll make other military spouses to help. Besides, it's not the hands that are causing the problem - it's the heart. It must swell with pride, sustain the ache of separation, beat soundly when it's too tired to do so, be large enough to say 'I understand' when it doesn't, and say 'I love you,' regardless."

"Lord," said the Angel, touching his sleeve gently, "go to bed. You can finish that tomorrow."

"I can't," said the Lord. "I'm too close to creating something unique. Already I have one who can heal itself when sick, feed unexpected guests who are stuck in the area due to bad weather, and wave goodbye to its spouse from a pier or runway and understand it's important to the country that the spouse leave."

The Angel circled the model of the military spouse very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.

"But tough," the Lord said excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this being can do or endure!"

"Can it think?" the Angel asked.

"Can it think? It can convert 1400 to 2 p.m.!" the Lord said.

Finally, the Angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model."

"It's not a leak," said the Lord. "It's a tear."

"What's it for?" asked the Angel.

"It's for joy, sadness, pain, loneliness and pride," the Lord said.

"You're a genius," said the Angel.

HOW TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT BIN LADEN'S DEATH

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has some advice for how to approach a discussion with your child about recent terrorism related events, like the killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden:

1. Wait until your child is ready to talk, don't force a conversation. Help them express themselves, through art or writing.

2. Answer a child's questions honestly, using age appropriate concepts for their level of understanding. Don't overload a child with too much information.

3. Be prepared to repeat explanations or conversations. Asking the same questions over may be your child's way of asking for reassurance.

4. Avoid stereotyping groups of people by race, nationality, or religion. Use the opportunity to teach tolerance and explain prejudice.

5. Don't let children watch lots of violent or upsetting images on TV. Repetitive frightening images or scenes can be very disturbing, especially to young children. Children who have experienced trauma or losses may show more intense reactions to tragedies or news of war or terrorist incidents. These children may need extra support and attention.

OHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD. Here's the recipe.

Pie dough

3/4 cup plus 2 tablepsoons (1¾ sticks) butter

1/2 cup cold water

13/4 cups (7.4 ounces) flour

1/2 cup (2.25 ounces) whole wheat flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 egg yolk

1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar

1. Cut the butter into medium-sized cubes and put it in the freezer. Put half a cup of cold water in the freezer too while you assemble the other ingredients for the recipe. Put two sheets of plastic wrap, about 24 inches long, on a work surface, overlapping them lengthwise by a few inches so that they form a big triangle.

2. Put the flours, sugar and salt in the bowl of a food processor, then pulse it once or twice to make sure the ingredients are combined. In a small bowl, mix together the egg yolk and vinegar. When the butter is quite hard, after about one-half hour, add the pieces to the food processor. Pulse it a half dozen times, until the pieces of butter are about the size of jelly beans.

3. Take the ice water out of the freezer (it should be very cold but not frozen) and mix it into the egg and vinegar mixture. Immediately add this to the mixture in the food processor and pulse until the mixture begins to come together. The bits of butter will still be visible, about the size of peas.

4. Dump the mixture out into the middle of the plastic wrap. Pull the edges of the plastic up around the dough, squashing it together and blending in the streaks of butter, which you should still be able to see in the dough. Don't overwork the dough or blend in all the butter: it should be streaky and just come together.

5. Using the plastic to press the dough, form it into a rectangle, wrapping the plastic tightly around the dough in the process. Put the dough in the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour. (You can keep it in the refrigerator for a few days and up to a month in the freezer.)

Pop tart assembly

1 recipe pie dough

About 1 cup filling (frangipane, Nutella, strawberry or any fruit preserves, or filling of your choice)

1 egg, beaten

1. Take the chilled pie dough out of the refrigerator. Divide it in half, and put both portions on a floured work surface.

2. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin into a rectangle until it measures 9 by 12 inches. Use a ruler to measure the sides and to keep them straight. As you roll the dough out to the right shape, press the ruler up against the dough to keep the sides and the angles true.

3. Using the ruler, divide the rectangle in half lengthwise, pressing the ruler down slightly so that you can see the lines. Divide the rectangle in half, then in half again width-wise, so you have 8 rectangles of 3 inches by 4½ inches each. Do the same thing for the other piece of dough. Cut each piece of dough into rectangles, following the lines imprinted by the ruler.

4. Using a pastry brush or a new paintbrush, brush half of the squares with the beaten egg, making sure you get to the edges.

5. Spoon a heaping tablespoon of filling into the center of each brushed rectangle, spreading it out a little but making sure that there's at least one-half inch of dough around the edges that does not have filling on it. Gently lift a second rectangle of unbrushed pastry on top of the one with the filling on it, pressing down along the edges so that the two pieces of dough stick together.

5. Using a fork, press the tines around the edges of all the tarts (dip it into your jar of flour to keep it from sticking). Prick the tops of the tarts in neat rows, to let the steam escape during baking. Place the tarts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place the tarts in the freezer for half an hour while you heat your oven to 375 degrees.

6. Just before putting the tarts in the oven, brush the tops with some of the remaining egg wash. Bake the tarts on a rack in the middle of the oven until golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool the tarts on a rack.

Each pop tart with frangipane filling: 487 calories; 8 grams protein; 46 grams carbohydrates; 3 grams fiber; 31 grams fat; 16 grams saturated fat; 140 mg cholesterol; 16 grams sugar; 237 mg sodium.

1) Don't hang up on someone and expect her to call you back.

2) If someone doesn't pick up the first 19 times you call, do everyone a favor and leave a message on the 20th try.

3) If you text someone on three distinct occasions and they don't get back to you on any of them, it's probably time to delete that number.

4) If you're in a relationship with someone, even if it's on the bricks, you should respond in a timely manner to voice mails and text messages, unless the leaver of the message has abused you or in some other way put you through the proverbial ringer.

5) At the very beginning of a relationship, if you haven't responded to someone's text or voicemail after three tries AND they keep pinging you, you should probably have a "we're not anything to each other" or "your attempts at communication are making me uncomfortable" conversation. Amazing rescue on March 14th -- soldiers from Japan's Self-Defense Forces went door to door in Ishinomaki, a coastal town northeast of Senda, pulling bodies from homes that had been flattened by the earthquake and tsunami.

• Exposure to very large doses of radiation may cause death within a few days or months.

—If you DO grind your teeth, ask your dentist about trying a nighttime mouth guard. It might make you look like an extra from“Revenge of the Nerds” … but mouth guards reduce grinding, or stop it completely, in 70% of patients who use them.

#4.) Bleeding Gums When You Brush Your Teeth. Brazilian researchers analyzed 14 studies, and found that stressed-out people have a higher risk of developing gum disease.

—They think that the hormone cortisol … which your body produces when you’re feeling stressed … might impair your immune system and allow bacteria to invade your gums.

#5.) Itchy Skin. A recent Japanese study of more than 2,000 people found that the ones with chronic itch were twice as likely to be stressed out.

—Obviously the itching itself caused some of the stress, but the researchers think that feeling anxious also aggravates conditions like dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis.

#6.) Bad Allergies. Some researchers think that stress hormones stimulate the production of a certain blood protein that causes allergic reactions.

—And a 2008 study at Ohio State University found that allergy sufferers had more symptoms after they took a test that was designed to stress them out.

#7.) Stomach Aches. In a study of over 1,900 men and women, the ones with the highest stress levels were more than three times as likely to have abdominal pain.

—Doctors aren’t sure why, but one theory is that the intestines and the brain share nerve pathways, and when your brain reacts to stress, your intestines follow.

The American Red Cross has once again launched a texting campaign to raise money for relief efforts in the Pacific region. Last year, the Red Cross was able to raise over $20 million for Haiti relief through simple text donations.

If you would like to donate to the American Red Cross for Japan Earthquake Relief, just text REDCROSS to 90999. Each text will provide $10 towards the Red Cross’s humanitarian efforts.

You can also text QUAKE or JAPAN to 80888. This is the Salvation Army's effort. Each text will provide $10. Salvation Army units up and down the U.S. Pacific Coast and in the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands are on standby and ready to help.

The Red Cross has also launched a campaign on Causes to raise at least $25,000 for relief efforts. By logging in to Facebook, you can donate anywhere from $10 to $500 to help Tsunami victims and their families.

Apple is also dedicating resources to the crisis in Japan. They have created a simple donation page in iTunes [iTunes link] that makes it simple to donate anywhere from $5 to $200 to the Red Cross with just a few clicks.
